The definition of Corporate Performance Management (CPM) and Business Performance Management (BPM) has remained consistent since industry analysts Gartner introduced the terms in 2001.

The components of CPM and BPM are processes of a business that occur on a daily basis, but in many organizations they are neither automated nor measured. The methodology of controlling BPM/CPM via software and technology allows the business functions to occur with less human interaction, thus reducing errors and increasing timeliness, accuracy and trend visability of opportunities and problems.
